Firmware Updates

It seems to be the month of firmware updates. There's the iphone 3.0, LG Arena's V10e, and my Nokia E71's most recent update.

Updating the software of my phone is both stressful and exciting at the same time. Stressful because the update process rarely is smooth. It can be nerve racking at times.

But I can't help but be excited everytime I update because some new feature or a major improvement could change the way I use my phone.

Reports from the net say that I should be able to take better quality pictures now. I hope that's true.

Media Sensationalism

I think its irresponsible journalism when news reporters call those who have already recovered from flu caused by the AH1N1 virus 'survivors'.

Instead of helping inform the public that so far there is no need to panic, they are using terms that have a psychological impact on their listeners.

You get well from the flu, and you're called a 'survivor'? Seriously!

Cheering Practice

I was at a mall when I came across what I think was the UP PEP Squad practicing for an event. The rehearsals sure are more breathtaking to watch than the actual performances.

Friday Pic 6/12

The Catholic influence in this country is hard to miss. Here is Our Lady of EDSA Shrine in front of Robinson's Galleria mall in Mandaluyong City, Philippines.

Who Is It Really About

You have a special occasion and you want everything to be perfect so you plan ahead and see that every detail is taken care of so you can make that occasion memorable for that person.

Then the person shows up not in the mood for anything because of a bad day. Nothing you do seems to lift his spirits.

you start getting annoyed yourself and soon you feel miserable. You keep thinking that your efforts should have been appreciated; that you went through all this trouble to prepare for nothing...

What started out as something you were doing for someone else became all about you, you, you.

... Or maybe it was all about yourself from the start.

All Because We Didn't

(pic: stage of our church)

I just attended our wednesday evening church service... Because I had to, I was the pianist. :D

One of the songs sang had the lines:
"Oh, what peace we often forfeit,
oh, what needless pain we bear.
All because we do not carry
everything to God in prayer."

It just got me thinking about the things that have been sources of stress to me. Worrying sure doesn't solve anything and it's bad for our health. Why is it so difficult then to just let go of the worry and focus on the things we can actually do something about?

Swine Flu Conspiracy?

I really don't understand what all the fuss is about this swine flu pandemic. Yes, its a new strain of the flu virus but we get new strains every year hence the need for a yearly vaccination.

Yes there have been deaths associated with the virus but it doesn't seem more fatal than the yearly flu outbreaks.

There have been conspiracy theories that the attention to this swine flu virus is to promote sales of the drug Tamiflu...

Reality is, there is no medicine for viral illnesses (vaccines maybe, but once you get the disease you have to let your body fight it) including the common cold.

Worn Out Road

I grew up on this street. I have literally walked along this road thousands of times. This is the road that brought me to and from my elementary school, high school, church, and clinic.

I really should have some ambition to leave this place. There is a lot more to the world than this street. But I guess, I'm not the ambitious sort. The motivation to look for better roads has to come from the outside because I can't seem to find enough on the inside.

A New Blogging Start

(pic: overcast skies over Metro Manila)

I guess the reason I post very rarely is that when I'm inspired to post something, I need to do it ASAP. 'coz by the time I get to my PC at home, I'm too lazy to post... Or the moment has just passed me by.

I've had a mobile phone for many years but then for some reason I coudn't get picture through to blogger.

Now it seems that all has changed. Even if I can't post in real time. I can always type down my post via email and send it when a good connection is available (I could always send it via my mobile network but that would raise my monthly bill).

I'm back!
